Saturday and I'm trying to muster up the will (Apple spoiled the word courage for me with iPhone 7) to get my but in gear and write something worthwhile. Chapter 4 of my dissertation is on the brink of completion, which naturally means that I now have no idea what I'm doing. #Life

So te get my mood up, and some semblance of a pulse to register on this blog, I've decided to share more pics of Jet. His joyful, loving presence in my life is oftentimes the only light shining into my room here on campus. (I wish people brought me this much comfort.) But before I head into the darker waters of my psyche (that are currently swelling), heeeeeerrrrre's JET!

On the road again

Photo day!!

It was Photo Day at school today... this still (since my days) seems to mean chaos in the classroom, and fun everywhere else. Learners are expected to be everywhere at any time of the day, to appear in class photos, team photos, individual photos... you get the idea.

Funnily enough the drama kids wanted me in their photo! Badly enough to petition the principal :0)

I loved it, of course, even though it felt strange to sit in on a group's Year Photograph after only being around for four weeks, and full knowing that practicum will be over in another four weeks' time.

But no matter how I declined, there was no getting out of it after they came back with the principal's blessings. Here's an iPhone photo taken at the same time as the official photo:

The learners at this school are amazing kids – and they are barging their way straight into my heart...

Back to academia:
Days like today are very tricky when you're trying to teach your lessons despite the mad-hattery around you. I suspect a better way to go about it, is to channel the excitement and turn the chaos into a learning experience in itself. Orals or creative writing projects could transform the lesson into something the carry with them whilst changing uniforms, posing with different teams and classes and just generally having a wildfire day.

Perhaps a little fuller in the jowls and thinner in the brows, but not too bad!

Thanks to my Dad, the lovely people at Standard Bank, and Spes Bona Motors - I'm finally driving a car I've been dreaming about for a decade! It's a Peugeot 206 CC (2007 model) - and I can't wait for a reason to drive with the top down :0)

Walking with my neighbors

Living in a historic neighborhood is turning out to be the most fun I've had in ages! Joining the Museum Hill Neighborhood Association was just what the doctor ordered.

Some of the neighbors got together this morning, for a walk around the neighborhood. After yesterday's delicious decadence at the Gothic House, I definitely needed the exercise! So I got up, dressed up, and stepped up. And boy, am I glad I did!! We walked quite a bit more than I thought we would, but it was so much fun!! I got to meet new neighbors, chat with neighbors I already know, and learn quite a bit in the process.
